Top 10 Tuesday — Tropes Are Tops!

20 Aug

This week Top 10 Tuesday is all about the tropes — common themes or devices used in literature. My list is all about plot devices that define a story line, such as rags to riches. While many turn their noses up at tropes, terming them cliches, there is a reason they are used over and over — they are stories readers want to read! My list contains the very common (and popular) tropes that were excellently used in the books mentioned. And as you can see, tropes can be used in any genre — romance, suspense, historical, and fantasy. Hope you find a book you will love!

I like all these minus amnesia. I have never really been into that trope. Every once is a while I read a good one of those, though.

It’s a good device if the reader isn’t sure if the amnesia is real or not.

I love amnesia! I wouldn’t love to actually have amnesia but I do enjoy reading characters who wrestle their way through it! My TTT

Love a good friends to lovers trope. It’s one of my favorites when done properly. And I’ve read a FEW marriage of convenience stories that work SO well. One of my favorites is The Breath of Dawn. I think it’s unusual for a contemporary to go this route, but this one works so well. 🙂

Second chance love is definitely an all time favourite for me! I love the optimism and themes of forgiveness when they’re done properly, you know? So good.

I think friends to lovers is my favourite. Throw in second chances or new beginnings and I am happy.
