First Line Friday — Love You Forever

14 Sep

Happy Friday and Happy Birthday to my daughter Allison! This sweetheart has been such a blessing to our family. In honor of her, I am featuring a book all my children enjoyed, mostly because it made their mother cry! When I brought Love You Forever by Robert Munsch home all those years ago, I didn’t realize how much of an impact it would make on me. My kids were tiny, so all the stages the mom goes through were mere glimpses of my future. I’m not quite living the ending . . . yet 😉 , but my husband is with his own mom. Life is sweet and beautiful and sometimes hard. I’ll conclude now because the tears are welling.

Please leave a comment with your first line, then head over to Hoarding Books for more from fabulous bloggers.

A young woman holds her newborn son
And looks at him lovingly.

Softly she sings to him:
“I’ll love you forever
I’ll like you for always
As long as I’m living
My baby you’ll be.”

So begins the story that has touched the hearts of millions worldwide. Since publication in l986, Love You Forever has sold more than 15 million copies in paperback and the regular hardcover edition (as well as hundreds of thousands of copies in Spanish and French).

Robert Munsch is the author of more than 25 books for children including The Paper Bag Princes and Stephanie’s Ponytail. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and studied to be a Jesuit priest before deciding to work with children instead. He taught in a variety of nursery schools and daycare centers while he earned an MA in Early Childhood Education. In 1975, Munsch and his wife, Ann, moved to Guelph, Ontario. The Munschs have three children: Julie, Andrew, and Tyya (see them all in Something Good!).

On my blog, I shared the first line of Alessandro D’Avenia’s “White as Silence, Red as Song,” but here I will share something from my current read, “Strange Grace” by Tessa Graton. I’m currently 25% into the story and I’m enjoying it! This is the first line of the current chapter I’m on.

“Three year ago, when Arthur was nearly fifteen, his best friend, Rhun, stopped the along the narrow deer path they’d been stalking along, and kissed him.”

Hope you’re having a great day! Enjoy the weekend ahead. 😀

Oh my goodness. How you are supposed to read this book without crying I’ll never know!

I’m sharing the first line from “My Hands Came Away Red” by Lisa McKay on my blog today, but I’ve also just finished reading Lisa Harris’s new release “A Secret to Die For”:

A sharp clatter jerked Grace Callahan out of the novel she was reading.

    Have a great weekend!

My first line comes from Thunder and Rain by Charles Martin.

    PROLOGUE
    Five years ago

Andie grabbed the pommel, slid her foot in the stirrup and hopped up on May-a fifteen-hand black cutting horse with white socks.

    Happy Friday and happy reading!

Happy Friday! My kids loved that book!😊

My First Lines come from Season of Wonder by RaeAnne Thayne…..

“This is totally lame. Why do we have to stay here and wait for you? We can walk home in, like, ten minutes.” Daniela Capelli drew in a deep breath and prayed for patience, something she seemed to be doing with increasing frequency these days when it came to her thirteen-year-old daughter. “It’s starting to snow and already almost dark.”

Have an awesome weekend and happy reading!💕📚

I know EXACTLY how you feel about that book! I don’t know if I read it once without choking back tears. Of course, I bought a copy for my grandson now. Every child needs a copy of that book. Lol!

Happy Friday! The book I’m sharing on my blog is “Out of the Storm” by Jody Hedlund. Since I’m still reading it, I will share the first line of the fourth chapter here. “Isabelle,” called Henry from the bedroom. “I need you!” May your weekend be all you’re hoping it will be.

    Happy Friday!
Today on my blog, I am sharing the first line from Tracy Groot’s novel The Stones of my Accusers. Currently, I am reading Finding Us by Heather Moore. So far, it’s a fun book. One of those books that has me smiling with each page! I am starting chapter 7, so I will leave the first line from there.

“Opening the bookshop on Saturday morning wasn’t as bad as Felicity thought it might be.”

Hope you have an excellent weekend filled with quality reading time!

Happy Friday! After preparing my blog post sharing first line from Shelley Shepard Gray’s Her Fear, I ended up reading the entire book. So here I’ll share the first lines for a novella I plan to read soon, Come Fly with Me by Gina Welborn and Becca Whitham:

Please, let him not be here. As Luanne Palmer climbed the stairs to the second floor, she muttered “please” after “please.”

    • rbclibrary September 15, 2018 at 7:46 am #

That sounds ominous! Have s wonderful weekend!

My first line is from chapter 6 of The Cumberland Bride by Shannon McNear:

Morning dawned with a bit more edge to the wind and the clouds more thick and grey, spitting definite rain.

I’m sharing the first line from All Made Up by Kara Isaac on my blog this week. It’s currently available for pre-order, and it’s another winner in my totally biased opinion 🙂

I’m currently reading Delayed Justice by Cara Putman. Here’s the first line:

    “It’s time to go, sweetie.”

    Have a great weekend!
