I love audiobooks! I started listening about 6 years ago when I traveled 4+ hours to my daughter’s college soccer games. They filled the tedious hours of driving alone. I got my husband hooked on audiobooks when we would go on road trips for football games. With Summer in full swing now, I thought it would be good to share my favorites. Audiobooks are perfect for car or plane trips or when you just want to relax and have someone read to you. 🙂 I also listen while exercising and doing chores, basically anytime when it is too cumbersome to hold a book! I went a bit over the top with my list — 20+ books! But I really liked them and just had to share.
TOP 10Â 20+ FAVORITE AUDIOBOOKS
While it is important to have a good story, a good reader/narrator is also important for a quality audiobook — timing and voices/accents are key. My husband and I got hooked on Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot mysteries. But just any old narrator will not do; we have to have Hugh Fraser! Lucky for us, a ton of Poirot audiobooks featuring Fraser are available. He does an excellent job in making Poirot come to life. Here are a few of our favorites.
The Christie audiobooks run about 6+ hours, making them a perfect choice for listening with others.
Along with the Christie mysteries, I have listened to some other excellent books. They vary in length, but have a two things in common: excellent stories and excellent narrators. The following have something for everyone — suspense, mystery, history. There is even a classic! Check them out!

You should try some of the Christie mysteries since they are short. I must admit to falling asleep and missing whole passages. I missed the end one time and had to go back and listen to it by myself! 😉

I love listening to audiobooks!! I am addicted to listening to audiobooks actually. I’ve also listened to more audiobooks this year than read books… I’ve listened to a total of 20 audiobooks during 2016 so far… I am even participating in the 2016 Audiobook Challenge hoste by Hot Listens and The Book Nympho.

Wow! That’s a lot of audiobooks. At 1 hour a day, 5 days a week, I can’t get that many done. Come football season, we will again be listening to Christie. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting!
I started listening to audiobooks for the same reason – we moved to an area where I had much more driving and I wanted something to pass time in the car. I’m hooked! I get through many more books that way than I can by just reading. I particularly enjoy them for longer classics that I want to read but don’t want to monopolize my reading time. I loved Spacek’s reading of TKAM. A few of my favorites are Jan Karon’s Mitford books narrated by John McDonough, The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place series by Maryrose Wood narrated by Katherine Kellgren, Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus by Nabeel Qureshi, Roots by Alex Haley narrated by Avery Brooks, Unbroken by Lauren Hillenbrand narrated by Edward Hermann, The Hobbit narrated by Ron Inglis, North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell narrated by Juliet Stevenson, and Wives and Daughters by Gaskell narrated by Nadia May.
Barbara, I need to download some classics to round out my reading. My son listened to War And Peace last summer. 60+ hours! I am currently hooked on Dee Henderson and catching up on some of her books I missed.
I never use audio books, but I spy several on this list that I’ve been curious about reading. Including Laura McNeil’s. When I first read about her novel, I was really curious, and am now reminded of that. 🙂
