I Am A Reader, Not A Writer and I Read Banned Books are teaming up to bring you the Banned Books Week Giveaway Hop! To learn more about banned books through history as well as a chance to win one (or maybe a gift card so you can pick your own), please click HERE.
I am giving away a copy of David Teems’ newest book, Tyndale, a biography of William Tyndale whose translations of the Bible were banned during the reign of Henry VIII. Not only were his Old and New Testament translations banned, but they were burned. As was Tyndale — he was captured in Europe, condemned for his crimes and then martyred. Here is a brief synopsis of the book (includes excerpts of his banned writings):
A beautiful literary tribute to the poet, martyr, expatriate, outlaw, and original translator of the English Bible. In this personable, historical narrative, Teems brings wit and wisdom to the story of the English “Paul” who defied a tyrannical church in order to introduce God’s Word to the common people.
To enter the giveaway, just leave me a comment. The giveaway ends on October 6. Good Luck!
Interesting choice. While I am not a Christian, i have always been fascinated by those who push for religious freedom and the availability of sermons and texts to the common folks.

Ok let me get this straight… they “banned” his translations then and they ban a book about him now? Poor guy can’t catch a break! Sounds like a great read!!
The biography is not banned, but his original works were. The book is all about Tyndale and his quest to get scripture to the common man.
I’m not familiar with this book but sounds like an interesting read

Interesting choice…definitely a far departure from what others chose but I find it refreshing. I would love to read this book.
