THEIR ELUSIVE ENEMIES TOOK EVERYTHING.  NOW THEY WANT MORE.

Crossroads Crisis Center owner Benjamin Brandt was a content man—in his faith, his work, and his family.  Then in a flash, everything he loved was snatched away.  His wife and son were murdered, and grief-stricken Ben lost faith.  Determination to find their killers keeps him going, but after three years of dead ends and torment, his hope is dying too.  Why had he survived?  He’d failed to protect his family.

Now, a mysterious woman appears at Crossroads seeking answers and help—a victim who eerily resembles Ben’s deceased wife, Susan.  A woman robbed of her identity, her life, of everything except her faith—and Susan’s necklace.

The connections between the two women mount, exceeding coincidence, and to keep the truth hidden, someone is willing to kill.  Finding out who and why turns Ben and the mystery woman’s situation from dangerous to deadly.  Their only hope for survival is to work together, trust each other, and face whatever they discover head on, no matter how painful. But will that be enough to save their lives and heal their tattered hearts?

My Impressions

. . . sometimes people are the exact opposite of who they appeared to be. This warning comes early in Vicki Hinze’s newest novel, and it is one the reader needs to heed. Forget Me Not is a real puzzler. Filled with unidentified dangers, attacks, and threats, this book will keep you turning the pages to find out just what is going on.

Susan/Karen/Kelly is a woman with no memory of her life following a carjacking in New Orleans. Dumped in the woods 2 states away, the only clues she has are a business card with a woman’s name written on the back and a gold cross necklace.  Ben Brandt is a bitter and lost man still reeling from the deaths of his wife and son three years before.  The two are forced together to find what the connections are between them and the explosive events surrounding them.

Hinze does a good job of describing the emotions and frustrations that someone suffering amnesia undergoes.  And the reader shares those frustrations too.  The motivations and roles of the various characters are hidden, and the clues come only as memory returns to the main character.  You really can’t put this book down; the answers are just a few pages away!
