Colleen Coble takes her readers back to Hope Beach in the Outer Banks with a new romantic suspense novel, Rosemary Cottage. Full of rich description, great characters and a story of loyalty and betrayal, this novel is perfect to take on your late summer vacation.
Amy Lange is back on Hope Island hoping to uncover the truth behind her beloved brother’s death. Something just doesn’t feel right about his last days and the accident that claimed his life. Curtis Ireland holds some of the keys that will open up the truth, but he is fearful of the consequences of getting involved in the pursuit and with Amy. They are immediately attracted to each other, but continued family obstacles keep getting in the way. As their investigation and attachment deepens, they are faced with life and death situations. And they and the reader are surprised by the things they uncover.
The town of Hope Beach and Hope Island come alive for the reader. You can feel the sea spray and smell the salt air as you read Rosemary Cottage. The quaint fishing village feels just like the perfect summer getaway. I found the main characters to be likable and was intrigued by the occupations that Coble chose for them — Coast Guard officer and midwife. I also loved how Coble included in the story the Banker ponies that wander the Outer Banks. Rosemary Cottage explores the themes of trust and betrayal, as well as how well we can truly know someone. As they struggle to trust each other, Amy and Curtis also struggle to trust God. The characters must deal with grief, disappointment and the feeling of abandonment — issues sure to resonate with readers. The second book in the Hope Beach series, this novel can certainly be read as a standalone, but if you have read book 1, Tidewater Inn, you will enjoy the continuing story of favorite characters.
If you enjoy romantic suspense, Rosemary Cottage is the book for you.
